CORONA® COOKING CORROSION PREVENTION
Corona® Cooking Corrosion Prevention prevents corrosion of the digester by electrically raising the potential of the vessel shell into a passive region where a stable oxide forms a protective, dense adhering film on the digester walls. The corrosive process liquors are unable to penetrate the barrier, and corrosion is virtually stopped. A well-tailored anodic protection system prevents general erosion, galvanic, and pitting corrosion as well as stress corrosion cracking throughout the vessel.
Carbon steel and stainless steel in the cooking environment have a natural tendency to form a protective passive layer on the metal surfaces, which are exposed to cooking liquor. This natural passive layer is normally very unstable and as a result of process disturbances the carbon steel starts to corrode rapidly. For vessels made of stainless steel, corrosion development takes a longer time but, depending on the stainless steel grade, it will start to penetrate sooner or later.
